TAMPA — A teenager fatally stabbed a man who police said forced his way into a southeast Seminole Heights home and attacked the teen’s mother early Tuesday. Gerald Lee Gay, 34, died at a local hospital, police said.

The incident took place at 1513 E Frierson Ave., according to Tampa police. That’s the home of Rhonda Jackson and her three children, ages 12, 13, and 18. Police said she had a child with Gay.

At about 12:20 a.m., police said Gay attacked the home. He slashed the tires on a car parked outside, police said, then tried to get into the house through a back bedroom window but was blocked by burglar bars.

He kicked in the door and attacked Jackson, according to police. Her three children tried to intervene and restrain Gay but failed, police said.

One of the teens grabbed a steak knife and stabbed Gay several times, police said.

Jackson and her children are cooperating with police. No arrests have been made. Police did not identify the children or say which of them stabbed Gay.

State records show Gay has been arrested more than 30 times in Florida. Starting at the age of 13, he has served time in state prison for charges including battery, robbery, burglary, grand theft, fleeing from law enforcement, illegal possession of a firearm and cocaine possession.
